Reverse pendulum serve and sidespin flick link

Hello,

Could it be that the action of reverse pendulum serve is almost similar although more complicated to the backhand sidespin banana flick? I noticed also that players who use a lot of backhand banana flick are especially good at reverse pendulum serve. Zhang Jike and Fan Zhendong. Is it a coincidence?

thanks

Marcin

Hi Marcin,

This is an interesting observation.

I wonder what others have observed.

Vaguely related, it is my impression that (if both players have the same handedness) it is harder to do the banana flick against the reverse pendulum

I think that is right because the bat and ball are curving on a similar path and so it is more difficult to contact the ball.

If we observe both the players we are talking about, use a lot of wrist movement.

Both the reverse pendulum serve and backhand sidespin banana flick are related to sidespin and requires a lots of wrist movement.

Maybe wrist movement could be a factor too.
