Coach, I am planning to buy new rubbers for my backhand and forehand. What does tensor, tackiness, throw angle, and gears mean? Which is best for looping. I'm a two winged looper.

Hi Brenda,

Tensor, is a rubber that has already been stretched to have the effect of speed glue.

Tackiness, is the amount of grip on the surface of the rubber.  In general, the tackier the rubber the more spin it can generate.

The throw angle is the angle the ball comes off your rubber when you spin it.  The rubbers that have a higher throw angle are easier to topspin against backspin.

Gears, are the different speeds the rubber generates with the different strokes.  For example, when you puch it may have good control, but when you topspin, it can generate good speed.

For a two winger looper, get a grippy rubber, with reasonably good throw angle. The rubber we recommend is  Yasaka Pryde at this level.

But, don't get too caught up with all the terminology and claims.
