Rubbing the table

I'm watching the WC tabletennis in Paris right now.

Here and with our local competition I see a lot of players walk towards the net and rub the table close to the net, every time when a point has been scored.

Why do they do that.

Hi Erik,

This is a common habit of players to wipe the sweat off their hands between points.  It also cools the hand down if the table is cooler than they are.  Sometimes though it is just a habit.

Hope you are enjoying watching the World Championships.  It is a good way to learn as well as being entertaining.
