Hi Jeff and Alois,

First of all I want to thank you. Your website helps me a lot in my table tennis play.

in your lesson about serve placements you said that 80% of the serves should be short, and  20% can be fast and long. I am doing well short serves, but when I try to serve a fast and long serve, the ball goes to the "forbbiden area" or out of the table. When I did a long and fast serve well, the ball lost its spin. Can you give some advices for serving long and fast with a lot of spin?

In addition, I saw that top players are standing in the corner of the table when they are serving. Isn't it better to stand in the middle of the table so you can get to the next ball easily?

Thanks,

Ayal

Hi Ayal,

When practicing the long fast serve you should put a target on the table where you are aiming for.  Initially you will find that some go short and some go too long.  That is all part of the learning.

To get a faster serve you need to flatten out the contact a little.  Eventually you can also concentrate on brushing the ball a bit finer to get spin with the speed.

Take a look at these:

Flat long serve
Long, fast serve with lot of back spin

These are both Premium lessons but if you can sign up even for a month you will be able to see these and all of our Premium lessons.

The top players tend to serve form the corner but if you notice by the time they have completed their serve they are in a good balanced central position.
