How do you hold the paddle when you serve with shakehand?

Hi Akshay,

For a lot of serves you can use your normal grip.  For the pendulum serve though it is easiest to take the 3 fingers away from the handle of the bat.  Then make a fist with them behind the handle.  This will mean you are gripping the bat with only your thumb and forefinger.  This allows you to use your wrist more freely.

Adding to what Alois said about how to hold the bat when your doing a normal/reverse pendulum serve is after you put your three fingers into the handle to make a fist behind the handle, get your first finger and stretch it down the middle of the bat. This way, when your doing the pendulum serve you have more accessibility of using your wrist during the serve, which is key when you are doing the pendulum serve in a game (or when your just pracicing the technique of it).

Although this is how its taught in the dvd, i find it much easier to have my index finger outstretched but down the outer side of the rubber rather than down the middle, i dont know if this is pure individual style, or to do with different shapes of handles. i use a normal flared handle. if i have my finger down the middle i dont gat as much wrist because the end of the handle hits my wrist, but then i do have very thick wrists. id say to a learner its worth experimenting first and finding what gives you the biggest range of wrist movement.
