Hi Pingskills,

Is it legal to serve at the side of the table? I thought it would be easy to win if you did that.

Hi Stefan,

You have to hit the ball from behind the end line of the table to serve.  You can serve it to anywhere on th table from there in singles.  PLayers can usually cover most areas of the table, so it is about serving with more spin and deception to win points.

Doubles Serving Rules

In this video we go over the somewhat complicated rules of serving for doubles in table tennis. There are a couple of extra rules for doubles that you don't apply to singles. In doubles you always serve from the right hand box diagonally to your opponent's right hand box. Each player has 2 serves each. If you've just been receiving then it's your turn to serve next.
