Shakehand Grip

Strokes

Hello, my question concerns the shake-hand grip. All my life I have held the bat with my pointer and middle fingers straight across one side of the rubber and my thumb across the other. I essentially hold it exactly how your video tells you to hold it except that I use two fingers not one. Is this an acceptable hold for the shake-hand or does it hinder my game in such a manner that I should definitely change grip to a single finger.

Thanks - Bob

Hi Bob,

The grip you are using is acceptable. The reasons most people don't have the two fingers on the back are that it takes up unecessary space on the backhand side. It can also lead to a tightening of your wrist and therefore less flexbiltiuy when trying to generate spin.

If both of these are not a problem for you keep going how you are. However if you identify these as factors that are limiting you, then you may want to experiment with the change. It really would not take too much time to change the grip.

Hope this helps.
