Hi, I am having some trouble returning a short push with a lot of backspin. Can you help me out?

Hi Michael,

The heavy backspin will grip into your racket and cause the ball to be dragged down towards the net. The key to returning a short push with heavy backspin is to open up the angle of your bat. This will help counter the backspin.

Another thing that helps is to try and generate a little of your own backspin when returning the ball. To do this you need to brush underneath the ball. The action of doing this will also help counter the backspin.

Take a look at the video below on the forehand push and hopefully it will help you out.

Good luck!
