If your opponent plays a short shot which draws you into the net is there a way of digging it out without giving them the chance to smash it back at you keeping it low to the with maybe some backspin to keep them offguard?

Hi Tom,

The best thing to do here is to try and play a short push back.  You need to have soft hands and not much forward momentum but just get under the ball with a brushing action.  If you can't get it short, try pushing it fast and long to make it difficult for them to attack the next shot.

Thanks for the quick reply but where im only 5 foot 4 and most of my opponents are adults and a lot taller i find it hard enough to reach the net in time for the shots and if i play a short shot they tend to be able to reach in and push it to the back of the table before i really have a chance to get back into the right position bend my knees and pull of the right shot to get the ball any ideas

In that case you are probably better off to push the ball long and deep with a lot of backspin.
