Strokes
Hi, I've seen in world-class table tennis that many of the offensive players flick the ball with what seems to be side-topspin by turning the wrist to the side. I've been practicing this shot by myself but don't seem to be very consistent with it, and am afraid I'm practicing this shot wrong. What could I do to master this shot?
Hi Glanden,
Take a look at our lesson on the Backhand Sidespin Flick. This should give you a good idea of how to play the stroke.
Let me know if you need more help with the stroke.
The pivot is where you are moving around your backhand corner to play a forehand. This is something that will come in handy in a match situation, especially if you have a stronger forehand. We will show you the best way to move in the pivot footwork.

Hi Alois
With the backhand side spin flick , as I have to move forward , I sometimes rush through with the stroke.
Do I need to wait just for a fraction for the ball to be its highest point in the bounce and then flick fast.
Also on my backhand for long balls , I would like to have the flick action rather than the normal backhand stroke
in order to cope with backspin. Do you advise this ?
Thanks

Grenville
Hi Grenville,
It is important to hit the flick at the top of the bounce. It will give you a much better margin of error.
You can use your wrist more on the longer backhand ball. This will help you to generate more lift and spin.
