Strokes
Hi,
Now that I am able to play forehand topspin a bit more consistently, I notice that I am brushing the ball a bit too much because of which the ball has a lot of spin but it goes a bit slow as well. When playing the shot, my wrist rolls over the ball after touching it to get the brushing contact. This is resulting in a lot of side spin on the ball as well. I am not sure if it is a good thing or bad thing, especially since I am just learning the shot?
Hi Abhinav,
To start with I think it is better to play with straight topspin. You can develop the sidespin later.
To get straight topspin you need to make sure the end of your racket doesn't drop down too low. The amount of sidespin is usually determined by this. Keep focus on the curve on the ball while you are learning the stroke.

Thanks for your response Alois, I will try to implement what you suggested. I think you are right, may be in order to brush the ball with a closed face, I am dropping the angle a bit too much.
BTW, can I use this shot when the opponent is serving side spin (may be mixed with some top spin or back spin)? Right now I am having good success against plain back spin serves.
