Hi, I've seen many of your videos and learnt many things but 1 thing I can't do is returning a side spin serve. I went to a table tennis tournament and lost because when my opponent serves a side spin and I touch the ball, it just flys away from the table, left or right.plz help.

Hi Adwaith,

This is something that improves as you play against these servers more.

You need to be able to adjust the angle of your racket to the amount of spin that is on the ball. The differences can be very subtle.  In our lesson on Receiving Secrets we cover this topic in depth and give you some simple tools to use to help you to speed up the process of learning to return serves.

Judging the Length of a Serve

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
