hi alois

i have a friend that has a heavy sidespin serve but i do not know how to return it with a topspin.

Hi Martin,

Wait till the ball comes long on the table and then use the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin technique to return the ball.  Brush through the ball fast.  This will negate the sidespin on the ball to a certain extent.  If the ball is going off to the side still then adjust the angle of your bat to face the opposite side.  Still make sure you are maintaining correct technique with the stroke though.

Fake Movements

After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
