Hi Jonathan,

Take a look at our lesson on these strokes, Sidespin Forehand Topspin.  This will also show you how to counter them.  I thin one of the best ways is to do a sidespin topspin back.

This naturally counters the spin on the ball.  You can also topspin them straight by brushing the top of the ball fast.  This will get the ball rotating straight forwards.
