Equipment
Hello Alois, Hello Jeff
Everybody is talking about choosing a slower bat for beginners to learn proper strokes, but doesn't it make sense also to play on slower tables too? or in other words, does a fast bat feel on a slow table equal a slow bat on a fast table? I don't necessary mean the rubber.
Thanks
Hi Marcin,
Interesting thought as usual from you.
My thoughts are that the slower bat allows you to feel the ball off your bat and to control your stroke. When shaping the stroke this is important. If the ball comes off your racket too fast then you compromise your stroke. The table doesn't have as much effect. You can slow the shot down that is coming to you which has the same effect as a slower table.
There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!
