Strokes
if the ball goes high into the table with some back spin, how the smash should be? is it the same as u narrated to go flat and through??
Hi Anegndi,
If the ball is high with some backspin you can still smash it. You may need to alter the angle of your bat very slightly to tilt it upwards to allow for the backspin. However it will be a very small amount. If you hit the ball fast and flat it will usually not be on your bat long enough for the backspin to take effect. If you hit it slowly the backspin will drag the ball down.
If there is too much backspin you can use more of a topspin stroke to lift the ball over the net.
Topspin-to-topspin rallies are fast, dynamic, and can be the key to winning more points! 🏓🔥 Learning how to control these exchanges will help you stay on the attack and put pressure on your opponent.

Hi Alois, my question relates to this one, I have a good (for my level) deceptive short serve ( heavy backspin or no spin ) but when the ball pops up, I am missing quite some seeming easy forhand smashes ( into the net they go ), I thought it was because of the backspin , but after reading this I'm not so sure anymore. Any help ?
Hi Lorenzo,
It could be because of the backspin. The higher ball even if it has a little backspin can be deceptive. Make sure you are also getting into good position to make the shot. Then allow for the backspin by either lifting the ball with a bit of topspin or opening the angle of your blade.
