Speed of equipment against age of player

Hello Alois and Jeff,

When someone becomes old, he moves slower. Is that a reason to reduce the speed of equipment in anticipation of reduced abilities ? Or is it better to choose a faster bat so that the successful shots are more effective ? In general older player = slower bat ?

Thank you in advance for your explanations.

Regards.

Christian

Hi Christian,

I think a slower bat for a slower player is a good idea.  It is about being able to control the ball when it comes to you.  If you try to hit the ball fast but if the ball comes back you can't cope then you will probably get yourself into trouble.

Thank you. Does it mean that the placement have to replace the speed ? And is it possible ?

Yes, I think placement and also variation of spin and speed.

Hello,

Since about 3 monthes I did play with blade Bty Maze OFF, with Tenergy 05 1,7 (FH) and Mark V 2.0 (BH). In general the raket was fast. But the forehand bloc was very very easy (perhaps because this blade is hard). The weight was also a bit too heavy.

I have tested a Donic Appelgren Senso V2 (= allround; same of pingskills touch) with the same rubbers. The backhand is very great for me. But the forehand bloc was very much difficult : I had the feeling that i had lost a lot of control !

So what to do to recover good blocking sensation with my FH ? Only work ? Change FH rubber to mark V or Pryde (if changing rubber mark V 2.0 seams to be to slow for FH; so Mark V max or Pryde) ? Or would the Pingskills touch be better than Appelgren senso V2 in this case ?

Thank your for what would be my last question for this topic :).

Hi Christian,

I think just change the rubber on the forehand to something a little slower.  The Pryde would be a good compromise between Tenergy and Mark V.
