Stance different in training vs matches

Training

Hi Alois,

I've observed that I can keep a wide stance and low position in training but often stand more upright in matches. It results in being out of position and making more mistakes. Although I'm getting aware of it, it is very difficult to change. It seems it is an old habit and even after almost 2 years of regular practice w multiball etc hard to get rid of. Any tips?

Hi Matthias,

This is an ongoing issue for a lot of players.

I have seen a training device that may help.  It is used more in Tennis but we have experimented with it in our Para program in Australia as well. Here is one link that will show you what I am talking about.

The Controller

Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.

OMG this is brilliant! I'm going to make this kind of device out of a rubberband resistance trainer.
