If I am playing against a short pips defender, do I have to brush the ball with topspin or can I just smash the ball?

Hi Zach,

You still need to brush the ball because you opponent can generate spin with the short pimples.  They can't generate as much as with an inverted rubber but you still need to be aware of spin.

Use the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin as your main weapon.

If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.
