Hi Alois, When you play on a table, the height of the table, length, width etc. Is all the same. When however, you play on a \'dodgy\' table, how many mm does the difference have to be from the real table for you to notice it isn\'t right? Do you think world champions will notice more quickly?

Hi Kon,

It doesn't take much of a difference to be noticed.  Players that have played a long time will notice a few mm difference.  This is similar to the better players knowing as soon as they have hit the ball whether it is going long even if it misses by a few mm.

I do often hear new players that walk into a table tennis stadium say, "why are the tables so small?"  Often if you have played on a table in your garage or shed it takes up the whole shed and looks quite big.  When you see the same table in a big hall it often appears to be much smaller.  I wouldn't mind a dollar for every time someone has asked me why the tables in a club are smaller than their table at home.
