tactics against heavy pushers

Strategy

I have played 18 games this season and lost 4, every time against people who have dug in and played heavy/spinny push shots against everything i have done.  I am a reasonably attacking player who get impatient against these players.  I am using Joola Drum on both sides, which is a medium hard rubber and an all+ blade.  Can you tell me what tactics i should try and use against these boring players who enjoy winning over enjoying the game!

Thanks Nigel

Hi Nigel,

The first thing is to accept that they are playng a legitimate game, as boring as it is.

Work on your topspin against backspin strokes. If they are totally defensive players, you can take your time before hitting strong shots.

Try to keep them close to the table before hitting the ball fast.  It will have more effect that way.

Many defensive players do not like it when you place the ball into their armpit area.  This is a difficult position to chop from.

Berry v Datta

Shibaji Datta is a hot favourite in this match up against the unusual style of Brian Berry who loves to mix the game up with some great defensive play and some whippy forehand attacks.
