Hi Alois

I've been using soft, mechanical-spin European-style rubbers for over a year now (Prydes and Omega IIIs).  However, I've recently purchased Hurricane 3s and will use these when my current set is worn out.

I don't know whether you are familiar with Hurricane 3s, but people I've spoke to who have used them before say it is the quintessential Chinese rubber with all its strengths and weaknesses.  It is super tacky (if you press down on a ball, you can actually lift it up!) and has a rock-hard sponge.  They said it was great for loading huge spin on loop kills, but almost impossible to do short game / control shots with.  Basically it has only one gear.

Now, I suspect this is due not so much to the limitation of the rubber but just different technique.

I think I understand the difference in technique for looping Chinese-style rather than European style (more of a horizontal swing, more brushing), but are there any different techniques and things I should keep in mind for things like pushing, short game, and slow/control shots in general?

Thanks

Ji-Soo

Hi Ji-Soo,

Hurricane is used by a lot of the Chinese national players.  I suspect they probably get the pick of the crop though.
These rubbers will deliver the ball very directly on the short push so it will be just a matter of getting used to a different angle of your racket especially on the touch strokes.

When blocking the ball may feel like it comes off a little slower but again it will just be a matter of getting used to it.  With all these changes allow yourself some time for things to adjust naturally.
