Hi Coach!

Recently I met a person who perfectly backspin the ball and he had also nice control in it.  Whenever I tried to play topspin in his backspin short, the ball get over the table and if I tried to play counterhit, it goes under the net.  This may become harder for me.

Does he can read my upcoming shorts or does he changes the ball's spins after a short ?how can I judge his spin?

Hi Haris,

It sounds like he may be changing his spin.  You need to watch the contact of the bat on the ball.  If the contact is flat there will be less spin.  If he brushes under the ball then there will be more spin.  You can also tell with the sound of the contact after a bit of training.  The spin contact will be less sound than the flat contact.

If you brush the ball with a lot of topspin and higher over the net this will give you more margin for error and the topspin that you put on the ball will help to drag the ball down onto the table.

Snake Shot

A snake shot is a type of stroke which is specifically used against a drop shot. It is usually loaded with a heavy spin so that the opponent finds it difficult to counter. The type of spin can be backspin, sidespin or topspin depending on your choice. You need to make a movement after hitting the ball to confuse your opponent.

Hi Haris,

First it is a matter of getting the angle of your bat right just to get it back on the table.  Only if they have mishit it and the ball is high should you attempt to smash it.
