D/Sir,

During my recent match I lost beacuse the opponent was feeding me the balls with varying back spin in rally....some with more back spin and other with less..... Due to this I ended up top spinning the balls out of table most of times and lost.

Kindly suggest how to read the amount of back spin imparted in the ball by the opponent during the rally...

regards,

ravi

Hi Ravi,

Try to watch the contact of your opponent.  You may be able to see if they are hitting the ball a bit thinner or flatter.  You may also be able able to tell by the flight of the ball. The balls with more backspin tends to hold up in the air a little more because of the backspin.

More importantly the more times you play against backspin balls the easier it will get.  It is difficult to tell exactly unless you have seen the differences a lot of times.

Strawberry Flick

The strawberry flick is the opposite of the banana flick and involves utilising the wrist to get the ball spinning with topspin and sidespin. Used in conjunction with the banana flick it can be very deceptive. The banana flick is a more reliable stroke and that's why you see more top players using it over the strawberry flick.
