dear sirs;

     i've been trying to hit the forehand and backhand offensive swing starting low as in a counter hit and moving foreward and up with the paddle at about a 45 degree angle, but with the paddle and arm moving forward.  this seems to create the momentum of an offensive shot.  in the past i've been hitting from back about 8 feet and the ball bounces high inviting a kill by my opponet.  My advisory friends have encouraged me to swing moving forward to create an offensive shot in order to prevent theses catasphropic kills.  does this make sense to you?  i'm slowly improving.

    thanks for your help in the past

Hi Charlie,

This does make sense. If you are putting the ball up high it can still be effective by ensuring you have lots of topspin on the ball. Sometimes people actually find this type of stroke hard to return.

Moving forward is a good idea and it sounds like your friends have the right idea. You could also try moving slightly closer to the table. By doing this you will naturally make your stroke more forward and you will limit the time your opponent has to make their return shot.

Let me know how you get on. Good luck!
