Strokes
Hi
Yesterday I went to my first ever tournament. I've been practicing in a club for 2 months and I got called to play for one of the strongest teams in my club, because one of their player couldn't make it. Both of my teammates were 20 and I am 13. So i felt a lot of pressure. I only played doubles and lost my first game but I won the second. In the third game they were just pushing the ball long with a lot of backspin and I could't do anything because I don't know how to topspin the ball of backspin yet. So my question is should I start practicing it or is it to early for that since I have only played for 2 months. Should I wait a little longer when I have a better bat and start practicing topspin off backspin.
Hi Eris,
Well done on playing the match and doing so well. It is a great way to learn more about the game as you have found.
I would start to learn the topspin against backspin if you have now seen how important it is in a match situation.
Take a look at the lesson on the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin for help with it.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
