Hi Alan,

The basics of doing any type of topspin serve is to brush the ball upwards.  To do the pendulum topspin serve, you need to hit the ball late in your swing, when the bat is moving in the upward swing of the pendulum.  If you hit it early in the swing it will have backspin.

It can be quite tricky and many players take a while to get the concept.  Even just isolate the late part of your swing in the pendulum serve and see when the bat is moving upwards.  This is when you need to hit the ball.

This is all covered in Serving Secrets Revealed DVD available through the website.
