Hi Jeff and Alois

I started to use long pimples on my backhand side some weeks ago. I have a question: when a high ball comes to my backhand should I hit it hard or cheat and just touch it?

Hi Roman,

It is difficult to hit the ball hard with long pimples.

I wouldn't call it cheating but you should think about placing the ball well with the pimples or you can step around and attack it with your forehand.

In this video we will discuss the differences between Inverted and short pimple rubbers. We will also cover the advantages and disadvantages of short pimple rubbers. Some of the advantages are that the ball travels lower and flatter over the net and that having one rubber short pimple and one rubber inverted provides variety making it more difficult for your opponent.

I measured the length of the "long pimples" I used today. They are 1.2mm long and have better friction than Butterfly Challenger "short pimples" (these are also 1.2mm long). This explains why I can sometimes return the serve with backhand topspin when playing in pairs
