Strokes
How can I deal with a very high topspin ball close edge on my backhand side. And how can I deal with a very soft, very high backspin ball close to the net on my backhand side? I found it is hard to make a positive stroke for a soft and high backspin ball on my backhand side. The problem is the ball with "no power", spin, higher and vertical up. If in my forehand side, I can be easy to win a point.
Hi Paul,
We have a lesson on this stroke in the lesson how to Counter a Slow Spinny Topspin. When the ball is close to the edge of your side, you will need to move back a little to get into a balanced position to be able to hit the ball comfortably. If you stay too close to the table you will be forced to hit the ball too close to the bounce. Similarly if the ball is close to the net, take a step in closer to the table to get into a balanced position to play the stroke.
The pivot is where you are moving around your backhand corner to play a forehand. This is something that will come in handy in a match situation, especially if you have a stronger forehand. We will show you the best way to move in the pivot footwork.
