just out of curiousity, what are all of your weakness, pingskillers?
mine are: BH/FH push
BH block and topsin
FH topspin vs topspin
BH smash
Basicly the whole backhand is the chink in my armour
Hi Jonathan,
Mine was definitely my backhand block.

Mine are service return and all aspect defense (I mean "ALL": block, chop, lob).
I'm trying to compensate with better serve and offense power, though.
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 11 years ago
Sometimes you can cover up weaknesses by having really good strengths.
bertus bertus Posted 11 years ago
Weakness:
- BH topspin (opening). I have no feel for it in relation to how much forwards and upwards momentum I give the ball.
- In less extent, my service return is not flawless. (grrr! Cursed no spin serves!)
Marian Stang Posted 11 years ago
Mine very very big weakness is push...I don´t know it.. :)every my ball is high and easy for my opponent to flick me when I push the ball :D
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 11 years ago
Hi Marian,
Try brushing the ball more on contact or closing the angle of the blade more.
David Nguyen Posted 11 years ago
The reverse pendulum serve. Such a convoluted sequence of actions just to do a sidespin+backspin serve.
Compared to forehand counterhitting my backhand counterhit consistency is way behind.
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 11 years ago
I still find the reverse pendulum difficult... just focus on doing more of the serves that I feel comfortable with.
Haris Ansari Posted 11 years ago
my only weakness is a heavy sidespin
Ji-Soo Woo Posted 11 years ago
Service return and footwork are my worst weaknesses.
Nikhil Bathla Posted 11 years ago
i am a offensive player and my weakness is blocking.
Julio Torres Posted 11 years ago
What are your stronger hits, and which one is your best service alois??
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 11 years ago
My forehand topspin is my strength and my favourite serve is the high toss pendulum serve.
Marian Stang Posted 11 years ago
Thank you Alois! I must work on my push because it´s very important stroke in my strategy :)
sarthak gupta Posted 11 years ago
hey alois...... how are my weaknesses and strengths? are they common or are they different from other players usually have?
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 11 years ago
Sarthak,
Everyone has different things. Yours are quite common.

I've got so many weaknesses it's not even funny.
First, my serve sucks. This could be down to not really trying to learn how to serve, so hopefully I am going to improve in this area soon.
My backhand is far inferior to my forehand. It's not nearly as bad as when I started, but it's still far from my desired level.
I also can't defend. It's all nice and well when I'm in control and attack first, which is most of the time, but as soon as I am forced to defend I just desperately run around and hit the ball hoping it will land back on the table. I don't really know how to get better at defending because everyone I've had as a hitting/training partner has been less aggressive than me.
This extreme aggressiveness and impulsivity combined with my not-so-great technique leads to too many unforced errors and losing points I really shouldn't.
Another big problem is my lack of mental toughness. I get very angry very easily, berate myself after every point I lose and can't stay calm when it's close. I've hung on well against players much better than me until something like 6-6 and then suddenly I disappear and not win a single point more.
Overall, considering I've been playing for 2 years now (albeit I only started getting serious about improving a few months ago) my progress is far from satisfactory.
bertus bertus Posted 11 years ago
@Jana
Only playing seriously for a few months now?! Don't worry to much, keep practising and things get a lot better.
But it takes some 5-6 years or so to make it look anywere near decent. Keep up the good spirit and practise, it's a difficult sport!
Cheers!
There excists no glory without failure!
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 11 years ago
Hey Jana,
It sounds like you are right in the middle of getting better. I think everyone goes through these feelings at some stage. I also think that everyone could tell you 5 things that they want to improve.
Don't be too hard of yourself. As Bertus said it is a matter of years before the game starts to look comfortable.
Serving takes years. One of your sides, forehand or backhand will always be better. Try to spend a bit more time on your weaker side so that there isn't a real hole in your game that they can exploit easily. If you can put the ball on the table reasonably consistently then that is enough to plug the gap.
To improve your defence play some practice games where you decide that you will only block. In training get them to topspin to you and you only block. When they are doing their footwork drills etc take that time to practice your blocking as well.
Keep working on your game.

what about your weaknesses Jeff?
Jeff Plumb from PingSkills Posted 11 years ago
If I were to go back and coach my younger self, I would have told myself to work more on my service and return. The other area I would have liked to be stronger is my backhand loop.

Esteban Mendez Posted 11 years ago
Currently, my biggest weakness is blocking that topspin. Players I have trouble playing against are topspin players and blockers. I used to have a weak backhand and s strong forehand, but thanks to pingskills and that video about the shakehand grip, I developed a more aggressive backhand on my own from there. See? Some problems come out of forgetting the basics and jumping straight to the hard stuff. Thanks Alois and Jeff, you two are amazing coaches and I will keep practicing.

My biggest weakness is thinking. I'm slow noticing what my opponent is doing to me and figuring out what to change. It's hard for me to maintain tactical awareness while I'm playing. Of course all my game could be improved, but I think my strokes are better than my play.
In terms of strokes, my short game is weak. I don't have a reliable flick.
Julio Torres Posted 11 years ago
Close to table attack
Soham Kulkarni Posted 11 years ago
My biggest " not so good" thing is my reading of serves and recieving .
i am able to read which type of spin is there but unable to estimate how much spin is put .
Oliver Posted 11 years ago
My main weakness is power in my backhand. I have no other weakness (but no strengths either)
Kaustubh Kulkarni Posted 10 years ago
My strength is my forehand topspin and forehand smash.
My weaknesses are my backhand push and backhand counterhit.
Abdiel Maldonado Posted 10 years ago
My forehand block.
