What is your Stroke Arsenal?

Hey Alois, Jeff, and all PingSkills members

I'm a pretty solid all-around player (right-handed shake-hand) that favors spinny loops and chops on both the backhand and forehand.

I tend to favor very dynamic forehand loops with heavy spin and "flat flying" chops in my game, with occasional side-spin loops and blocks.

Also, I mainly use a wide range of variations in the pendulum, reverse-pendulum, tomahawk, and backhand serves.

I'm currently using the Ping Skills Touch with Xiom Vega Pro on both sides.

What I'm asking is, what is your "comfortable" or "favored" arsenal of strokes?  I'm just curious to see exactly what type of game people play and what strokes they use in that style.

Cheers!

Hi Curtis,

I will start it off I guess.  I mainly use the Pendulum serve and favour my forehand topspin. I also use the PingSkills Touch with Vega Pro.

Over to the rest of you now.

Meh i guess im second >.<

I favour my reverse tomahawk follow with a short push then a powerful spinny topspin loop with a bit of side spin going to the right. this is my 3rd ball attack technique i have many more :P

i mainly use the pendulum with heavy backspin, with occasional tomahawk or backhand serves.  i try to follow up with a fast loop rather than a slow high spinny one, if this is not possible i try to put as much backspin on the push as possible and wait for a looping opportunity. i love to smash, and throw in occasional chops but not many. im quite good defensively away from the table when i have to be.  im just developing a backhand loop but its not consistent enough for constant match use yet. im also working on the backhand sidespin flick against backspin, and sometimes use it without the sidespin.  i use a butterfly timo boll forte blade with yasaka mark v on both sides. i plan to change my forehand rubber to pryde when the season ends to try it out as my forehand control is pretty good and i think im ready for a faster rubber on that side only.

I like to use the pendulum serve and then try and make the first topspin. I often play the first topspin as a very spinny loop to get into the rally. I quite like rallying and so this is effective for me.

I also like to use short backspin backhand serves. I like to serve these short to my opponents forehand. I find that most people are used to receiving the pendulum serve and that by mixing in some backhand serves I can often get a few weaker returns.

I am a counterattacker by nature so I often find myself pushing and moving the opponent around, inviting them to open up with the first loop which I try to block and then I start counterdriving and trying to get the ascendency in the rally.  I have a large arsenal of serves (quantity, not quality) and if I find one that the opponent is a little tentative against I can sometimes go into a 3rd ball attack mode.  But I can't initiate the attack consistently for very long...it's more the case of attacking for 3-4 points and then going back to my reactive style.  I use Xiom Jazz blade with Omega IIIs.  I rarely use heavy topspin in my drives and hit way too flat.
