Strokes
hi alois,
yesterday (feb 5) was my first district tournament. i went through the quarter finals in the category of under 13 years but i lost to a player .his bh rubber was long pips for 5 sets he got 3 so i lost....the prob is when he serves a spin serve i always attack it....now the question is when should i start to play shots or topspin??should i push the first ball or what???a litle help here
Hi Rahul,
Well done on getting to the quarter finals.
You should when playing against long pimple players you need to understand the effect of the pimples. Remember if you put a lot of backspin on the ball you are likely to get a topspin ball back of the pimples and vice versa.
So if you start with a backspin ball you may get an easier ball to attack next. So you can wait for the right ball before you need to attack.
We have a lesson on how to play against Long Pimples in the Master Classes.
The strawberry flick is the opposite of the banana flick and involves utilising the wrist to get the ball spinning with topspin and sidespin. Used in conjunction with the banana flick it can be very deceptive. The banana flick is a more reliable stroke and that's why you see more top players using it over the strawberry flick.
