Windshield wiper serve knee bend

Serving

Hello,

Why does a table tennis player have to bend down so low to perform the Wind shield wiper serve?

Also, would you recommend using this serve regularly or just sometimes?

(I have never done this serve and it looks quite tricky.)

Thanks

Hi Nathan,

It is easier to hit the ball when you have your bat above your elbow. To then get the ball low you need to contact the ball when it is lower.  So to have your bat up and still get the contact low you need to bend.

If it is an effective serve for you then you can use it regularly.  If not, then use it sparingly when you need a change up.
