Hi Edwin,
What do you feel is different?
Take a look at our lesson on "Get a Grip" in our Strokes and Techniques lessons and let me know if this helps.
The pivot is where you are moving around your backhand corner to play a forehand. This is something that will come in handy in a match situation, especially if you have a stronger forehand. We will show you the best way to move in the pivot footwork.

I feel like he has his thump and last finger closer to eachother than I have but when I try to do that I cant get my indexfinger in the right position anymore (i cant even get it on the forehand side of the bat.). do you think after all these years of training his fingers became more 'supple' (dont know its the right word for it but i am not english.) so he is able to do it.
But about his grip. He is able to close his bat more with his fingers. It also makes his backhand more open and it will easier to do close to the table flicks with my backhand.
So what do you think? Thanks.

As you develop you will learn to use your fingers better. For the backhand the index finger doesn't need to be too much on the forehand side of the blade. He moves his finger around a bit for each stroke. How big is your handle? Are you using a penhold blade?
