Xu xin Not for Singles

Hello Alois and Jeff,

im thinking, China makes a risky Gambe by Not giving Xu Xin the second spot for singles. I think European players fear not Ma Long the most, but Xu Xin. I think if Ma long has a bad day, he is beatable, cause he plays with the European shake hand tradition, he is  more "readable" so more vulnerable to a european than Xu Xin in bad form. Especially Dima could be a dark horse, since he seems to be focused a lot on the Olympics and has a winner type trainer in Persson.

My favorite Chinese lineup would be Ma Long & Xu Xin for singles. Xu Xin and Fan Zhendong for doubles and a free extra spot for the titleholder made possible by the Olympic comity.

what are your thoughts?

Hi Marcin,

Yes I think they have taken a risk with Zhang Jike.  I feel more sorry for Fan Zhendong though for missing out completely on going to the Olympics.

Fan will get his chances, but who knows where Xu Xin will be in 2020?

I think Xu Xin will never win an olympic gold medal. He will be too old by 2020 so his time is over, all the best Chinese players in their prime were in their 26-29s and Xu Xin will be more than that and even before the 2016 olympics things were not good. Xu Xin is actually weaker than you think because he lost to Jun Mizutani who has never won a world title and by the way there is not much left of penholders these days. There is only one penholder to ever complete a grand slam and that was Liu Guoliang more than 10 years ago and in that time a lot changed like the speed glue ban and the ball size and poly ball. Unlike other sports ping pong was better before the 2000s it was more fun and every ping pong game did not end with a Chinese player winning.Fan Zhendong is actually the best player in the world because he is ranked no 2 in the world and he is only 24 years old,I think Fan will be the first to complete a gold slam which is a double grand slam which will mean he will be better than Jan Ove Waldner which will be sad and I honestly don't want that because we all know Jan was a beast and defyed everything of the chinese philosphy like how he used a straight handle racket and he barely used power from the ground if you know what i am talking about
