Serving
Hi Alois
How to do this serve done by Xu Xin, it looks like a pendulum serve but I think is not really a pendulum serve. Is this serve a good serve? He did it in the following videos:

Hi Yap,
They are both Pendulum serves. He has a different finish to the serve but if you look at the contact it is the Pendulum serve.
He does the different finishes to disguise the contact and the spin on the ball.

Hi Alois
Is it effective to vary the finish positoon as you have mentioned?
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 9 years ago
Yes this can give your opponent a different image of what has happened and give them uncertainty as to the spin on the serve.

Can you show me how Xu XIn does that serve in the the ask the coach show episode 195 coming on 30th november?

And also the disguising part as I find it so hard to imitate the serve and thus could not use it.

We will do this on the show on Monday.

Hi Alois
Can I do this serve using the shakehand grip ( The shakehand grip used for pendulum serves, not the normal one) instead of the penhold grip?
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 9 years ago
You can use the Penholder grip or the modified shake hand grip where you take the 3 fingers away from the handle and put them behind the handle.

Xu Xin is not the best server, you would rather make up your own serve because he is really bad at disguising the spin and your opponent will know what spin you put but i guess it is a good set up serve which means you could use that serve and the opponent does a weak return to your forehand and you make a killer shot
