Do you guys have any tips on how to adjust to different height balls, particularly high balls to the backhand (But not high enough and too fast to smash)? I'm talking about variations of a few inches, so that instead of hitting the ball at waist height, you're hitting it at chest height. With the forehand, all you have to do is raise the arm from the shoulder, and your paddle angle won't change, but with the backhand, if you raise your arm, your paddle opens and you have to turn your forearm to maintain a constant angle.

You are right this can be an awkward ball.
The key is lifting your elbow and then using your forearm for the stroke. If you notice with the Backhand topspin from a waist height the elbow stays relatively still through the stroke. By then just putting the elbow up into a high position your stroke will come through at the right height.
As far as the bat angle you just need to turn the bat forward a little because you are hitting the ball from higher.

Yes. Try to focus on your elbow height first and then play the stroke from there.

I ask because I'm running into issues with consistency and power in topspin rallies with my backhand drive and loop, especially if the opponent loops very spinny loops that kick right off the table, since I'm accustomed to hitting my backhand at waist height and right in front of my body.
