My rubber: https://photos.app.goo.gl/tdgvbf9nefJLMmRq7

So basically it's a crack and when pressing down on the edge of the rubber I can see the rubber layer underneath. This is the top right corner when the handle is facing down. I don't think this is the hitting zone. I just want you to assess this like an umpire would and is this competition legal? I am just wondering also if it was more worse would it be legal because I don't think that affects anything as it's location is a part that I believe no shots need.

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for reaching out with your query regarding the condition of your table tennis rubber. From the description and the photo you provided, it sounds like the rubber has sustained some damage at the top right corner. In competitive play, the rules regarding the condition of the racket can be quite specific. According to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) regulations, the racket may be inspected by the umpire and must meet certain standards.  The rubber needs to be even and in theory it shouldn't have any tears in it.  However, if the tear is small, as it is, you can even put some glue in to make it a little less apparent.

If you're planning to use this racket in a tournament, it might be a good idea to have it inspected by the tournament umpire before play to confirm its legality. If the damage worsens, or if you find it affecting your play, consider replacing the rubber to maintain optimal performance and compliance with ITTF standards.
