HI Guys! As an older player, I am interested in ways to play that promote longevity in the sport. I am amazed at the longevity of He Zhi Wen. Granted, he is not in the top ten, but he consistently defeats much younger and very skilled players in Europe including rising star Felix Lebrun at 60 years old. In your opinion, how has he maintained his ability to play for so long, and what is it about his style or strategies that still make him effective against stronger and younger players? Thanks.

Hi Bob,

Players like He Zhi Wen have a very simple and compact game that doesn't take a lot of movement.  I think movement is the biggest thing that slows down as you get older.

The other thing to remember is that these players hit a lot of balls and did a lot of concentrated training in their younger days that allows them to have a high level to start with.

As you get older in training years it is then fine to decrease the amount of hours you are spending on the table and just maintain fitness and keep thinking about how you can make simple changes that will help your game.
