Footwork

Good footwork is amongst others my next challenge to improve my game. I think it's the most important as I feel I have to compensate a lot with the arm and body to get there in time. I used to play basketball and I'm quite tall so I tend to use my length too much and stand still. because of my long legs, I really have to go deep through my knees for the right position. Are there any exercises to train the legs and feet specifically for footwork?

I really try to motivate myself to move more but it's quite difficult to learn.

Hi Thijs,

You are right that footwork is a crucial part of the game.  Try a wider stance.  This will mean you have to bend your knees less.  Still work hard at keeping low.  This will give you a big advantage with stability and also with your ability to move.

I think one of the best things you can do is to train some repetitive drills of footwork.  We have a lot of options for you in our Free Downloads section.  Take a look at the Training Drills download that will show you things that you can work on.  Start with the 2 and 3 ball drills.

There is no substitute for lots of training.  It will be well worth the effort.
