In doubles my right handed partner is receiving.  I am left handed, should I stand right of centre in order to use my forehand more?  Sometimes if ball is hit down the line at me it is hard to react standing to the left side.

Hi Joseph,

The left hander should always stay right of their partner.  If your partner is receiving stand on their right hand side.  After they receive it is important that they move back quickly so that you have the whole table.  If you are getting caught on your forehand corner, adjust your position slightly so that you are closer to the centre line.  Imagine if you were playing singles and the next ball was coming from their forehand box.  Where would you like to stand?  Try to position yourself as close to that position as possible without interfering with the receiver.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
