Strategy
It was the finals and a best of 5 match. My opponent was indeed a finely trained player. No matter how hard i hit to his forehand he would return it with double the power and even though i figured out during the match that he was weak to his backhand....i couldn't send the ball there...what do you think would be the best strategy against such players whose shots can't even be seen?
Hi Sandesh,
You need to try to get the rallies started on that diagonal to his backhand. Serve the ball there or try to return the ball there. This will make it easier to get the ball to the backhand side more.
You also need to think about keeping the ball lower so that it makes it more difficult for them to attack.
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
