Hi alois and jeff....there's a friend of mine who does the fast sidespin topspin serve on my backhand side..ive tried both attacking and defending it but its not working...i have a long pimpled rubber and a mark v....should i try making room and chopping it with long pips or attack with backhand topspin with mark v? if both are possible then what is more advantageous and effective?

Hi Shubham,

Both are possible and both can be effective against different players.  The long pimple return is easier for you to execute so start with that.

Judging the Length of a Serve

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
