Roller-skating vs running

Greetings PingSkills team,

I would like to ask about some exercises for making my movements faster.
I tried running, however,I think thath...running improves more of the stamina, rather than explosive speed, doesnt it?
I tried skipping a rope, but I always hit the  furniture around myself and exercising outside is very....uncomfrotable here.
So I thought...could roller-skating improve the exposive power of take-off?
I mean,in table tennis, there is often needed to perform only a few steps,as fast,as accurately and as soon as possible. Then you must stop, hit and make another movement (speaking of long-range defensive movements). You never need to travel more than approx 12 metres.
Could roller-skating act as form of partial simulation of this movement,at least regarding the muscles used?

And do you know about any other exercises that can speed up other needed movements?
(i.e. hand swings etc.)

Thanks
DK

Hi DK,

That is an interesting idea.  I haven't tried this before... and would probably fall over too much to make it beneficial for me... More of a danger really.

Building strength will help with faster movements.  Take a look at this Blog on Strength Conditioning for Table Tennis and Strength Conditioning for Table Tennis Part 2.

I have read those blogs, howeber they do not seem to respond the core of my question.
I look for some exercises I can do at home or limited space or while travelling without looking mindless that can help me to improve those muscles that cause the rapid swings and rapid start-stop.

That is why I thought about roller-skating. As I can use it for travelling and at the same time it can simulate the movement, most notably the direct in-move,when I need to close-in while staying square on. (I have not seen many defenders using a shuffle when countering a dropshot thus I am trying to copy especially Matsushita's movements to the best of my abilities).
In overall then...could it help build the same muscless that are used for take-off?
