What do I do with a no spin ball at the shoulder height?  I try to hit it and usually not too good results.  Should I wait for it to drop down or try to smash it at its highest point?

Hi Joseph,

You need to wait ill it gets to your comfortable hitting height.  Usually this is around shoulder or head height. If it only goes to shoulder height you can also think about just using a faster topspin.

If it's no spin, you can do whatever you want with it.

What I've recently started doing is a backhand chop smash.

Try it out. If you can pull it off, it's an extremely good shot.

Hi All,

Coaches,

Because I'm still working on my F/B Counter-hits, I too face a problem with these high balls especially because the starting positions of the Counter-hits are low.

Is it necessary to hit the ball at the peak of it's bounce? Because I tend to wait for the ball to fall into the starting positions of my strokes.

Also, what should I do when the ball is too low when I'm trying to execute the Counter-hits?

Thanks a lot, Mohammad El Hariri.

Jone,

The Chop smash is a really risky stroke.  When you have the advantage with the high ball the chop smash is an unnecessary risk.  You are much better to make a smash or fast topspin.

Hi Mohammad,

You are better to hit the ball when it is higher.  Think about getting your starting position higher. This will help the stroke.

When you are counter hitting and the ball is too low then make a topspin stroke.  This will lift the ball up and over the net.  So the only difference is to brush the ball more on contact to get the topspin and lift.

i wanted to ask can you desrcibe shortly how the loop or smash (i dont know how it calls) movement should be becouse i miss table becouse i think of wrong movement

Let it drop to a comfortable height.  Then use your normal topspin action.  You don't need any lift on the ball so just go forward on it.  It doesn't need to be a strong stroke, just think about placing the ball well to keep your opponent away form the table and the attack.

Hi Alois,

When I tried to smash a shoulder height ball which carries heavy backspin, the ball always go to the net. Please help me on hitting such kind of balls. Thanks.

Hi Albert,

If it has backspin I recommend that you topspin it.  Smashing a shoulder high backspin ball is very risky. It is a much better option to topspin it.

Dear Alois,

When I tried to topspin the ball, I missed it most of the time. I think the reason is that the backspin ball drops almost vertically and I need to topspin the ball with a nearly vertical bat. Therefore, the chance of missing the ball is very high.  Should I let the ball drop before I topspin the ball and at what angle should the bat be held?

Hi Albert,

You can have your bat quite vertical but move your bat forward as you are swinging up so that the bat contacts the ball.

as i readed your questions and answers i got a thought what mowemeny should be:

you need to make an arc iwht your hand from body bottom to head but the main point of hitting would be arc center
