Hi

i am planning to order a new paddle. one side is 1.8 red and the other is max black. i was wondering if the different sizes of rubber would matter. thanks

Hi Omar,

The thicker the sponge the more spin and speed you will get with it.

Faster and spinner is not always better.  It is important that you don’t get something too fast that you can’t control.

If I may add something :

# if the sponge is soft (e.g. 35° or even less), a thick sponge will make smashing more difficult (lack of precision), and a thin sponge will be completely compressed when smashing, which is not ideal either.

# thicker sponge = a bit heavier (for the same rubber reference).

# typically, the thicker sponge is used on your strong side (most commonly the forehand), because, as Alois mentioned, it is a bit faster and has a bit less control (again, for the same rubber reference).

Ciao,

J-B.
