I have seen Mima Ito smashing balls about stomach high, why don’t most players smash below their head and always loop instead. I’ve heard it’s more riskier to smash the ball below your head but better.

Hi Jason,
Yes it is a riskier shot because the is less height over the net with the smash.
With the plastic ball bouncing a little higher this shot has become more popular.
