Spin trainers

Training

Alois and Jeff,

I have noticed that it is possible to buy 'spin trainers' (for example Tibhar sell one, and there are cheaper versions on Amazon) that are a ball fixed to a steel cable on a stand. I think the idea is that you can practice a stroke and see how well you brush the ball. I have been unable to find any video of anyone demonstrating one of these. Are they of any real value? do you have one and could you do a video review?

Hi Nigel,

While I think they can be a good idea they are something that you only need to use for a minute or two to get the feel of the contact.  They are easy enough to make.  Just stick a piece of wire through a ball and get two friends to hold either end.

In this session we introduce some random drills. A random drill is where you don't always know where the ball is going. Random drills are really important for your development as they are more game like. You need to be able to play your strokes well even when you don't know where the ball is going. We also continue to work on your new serve. This week we introduce a target into your service practice to help you gain even more control on your serve.
