Sir,

As we know, almost every inverted rubbers are available with different sponge thickness.  Now my question is about changing characteristics of a same rubber with different sponge thickness.  Let's take a very common rubber now a days - Donic Coppa Gold (very commonly used inverted rubber)

Sponge Thickness            2.2mm (Max)             1.8mm

Speed                             Faster                        Slower

Spin                                ???                            ???

Control                           Less                           Better

I want to know about the spin changes with different sponge thickness.  Will it increase, decrease or no change?

Regards - Debo

Hi Debo,

The thicker the sponge the more spin you can get.

Sir,

What should be the sponge thickness for backhand rubber for a player who is looking for less speed, very good control but with good amount of spin.

Regards - Debo.

Hi Debo,

Go for a slightly thinner sponge.  1.8 should give you all of that.

The wood will make a difference but not as much as the rubber.

A madeira vai fazer a diferença, mas não tanto como a borracha.
