hi Alois
What I struggle with during a match is not the strokes or the correct movement but how to keep the momentum and movement going?
How do I improve this and keep focused during a game?
Hi Piers,
The best way to improve this is by training it during your practice sessions.
It is difficult to think of two things at the same time (especially for us males). That is why the movement needs to become automatic. You need to do a lot of footwork drills so that they become natural for you. This means repetitive drills for 5 to 10 minutes each. Work at a consistent speed where you are getting at least 6 to 10 ball on each rally.
Take a look at our Training Secrets Revealed DVD. This will give you lots of ideas for training and footwork drills.
The seventh building block of table tennis is sports psychology, an essential aspect of mastering the game. The first step is recognising your emotions during important matches. Understanding how pressure and nerves affect your performance allows you to develop strategies to stay focused and in control.
By strengthening your mental game, you can handle high-stakes situations with confidence and perform at your best, no matter the challenge.
